How Much Dental Coverage Does Your State Medicaid Provide?

Here is a breakdown of Dental Coverage For Each State's Medicaid Plan.

Coffee Or Tea, Which Is Worse For Staining Teeth?

There are a variety of foods and drinks that can contribute to staining your teeth over time, but some are distinctly worse than others. We all know that berries, beets, hard candies and sports drinks can color our teeth, although this is not usually permanent. But coffee, tea and colas are notoriously bad because drinking these beverages daily can slowly stain your teeth over time and it isn't always enough just to brush and floss. As to the question of whether Coffee or Tea is worse? Well, the answer is Tea. Black Tea, specifically. It has properties that can stain your teeth more rapidly than any other drink. If you've ever brewed black tea and poured it into a white coffee cup, you probably noticed that it left a ring, or stain. This is from the tannins combined with acidic properties in tea. Now, there is speculation that using mineral water or hard water to brew your tea and coffee can help to keep those staining agents at bay, but the sacrifice may be that your morning drink won't taste as good! As for me...I would sacrifice the teeth for the taste; I would much rather have good tasting coffee in the morning!

Does The Affordable Health Care Act "Obamacare" Cover Dental?

I cannot tell you how many times each week I am asked this question. Part of the Affordable Healthcare Act (ACA) requires that insurance companies offer dental. However, the dental that is offered is only required to cover children and teens 19 year old or younger. Even so, that coverage is very limited. Remember at age 12-13 when your permanent teeth were a little crooked and you wanted braces? Well, if your child needs them now they will have to be deemed "Medically Necessary". Most major dental work is like that under this insurance plan.

What if you are over 19? Well guess what, you are not required to be covered at all. The ACA marketplace does have "stand alone dental plans" or advise you to seek "independent dental insurance". At what cost though? Since the demand for it is up, it is no secret that premium prices will be inflated and coverage benefits will be the lowest they can possibly be. Dental insurance even before the ACA was outrageous and unpredictable. It limits you what can have done and charges you high monthly premiums. This is only getting worse since the implementation of the ACA.

Now, it is a policy of mine that I do not use our blog site as a platform to try to sell you on our plan. However, dental plans such as ours is the key to getting dental coverage at an affordable rate. You can turn that high monthly premium into a low annual premium, get what you need/want to have done when you want it without the worry of whether or not it is going to be covered. You will not have to have any procedure deemed "medically necessary" or wait an outrageous amount of time for authorization.

Does the ACA cover dental? Basically.. NO it does not. It will refer to you to some place that is set up to provide you with dental and will do so at an unfair and outrageous rate. Readers, know that you have options. Research, Research and Research is the key to getting the coverage you need at a rate you can afford. When you do that research, you will find that dental plans are the best option. Which is the reason that dental centers refer to people to dental plans.

We have done some research for you, you can see comparison all types of dental coverage on our website's comparison page by clicking here.

Savon Can Help When Your Dental Benefits Are Exhausted

That's right! For those of you who carry a dental HMO or PPO, you probably already know that you have an annual maximum of benefits every year. In most cases, if you're in good dental health, those benefits are sufficient enough to cover your routine cleanings, exams and the occasional fillings. But what happens if you need more dental work? The frustration of trying to schedule your treatment to coincide with the renewal of dental benefits can be exhausting an in a lot of cases a deterrent to patients scheduling extensive dental treatments.

Another thing to consider is that under the new healthcare act, dental is covered only for a minor child and only in the case of an emergency. The Affordable Healthcare Act requires insurance companies to offer dental to their clients, but it can be expensive and it covers very little. You can opt for a stand alone dental plan that offers more in the line of benefits at a greatly reduced cost.

Enter...Savon Dental Plan! Savon is an affordable discount dental plan that offers its members discounts up to 50% off their dental treatment. Memberships start as low as $49 a year! With benefits such as no waiting periods, no limitations, no exclusions and a steadily growing nationwide network of dentists, Savon can pick up where your dental benefits run out. 5 Natural Remedies To Relieve Tooth Pain

Why does it always seems like the only time we get a toothache is in the middle of the night or on the weekend when the dental office is closed?

Tooth pain is intolerable, but here are a few remedies to help relieve the pain until you can make an appointment with your dentist.

  1. Clove Oil - You can get a vial of clove oil at any major stores. Dip a cotton ball in the clove oil and place directly on the ache. *You may have a burning sensation.
  2. Peppermint Oil - Take two peppermint leaves and chew on them until wet, then place them directly on the ache.
  3. Salt water rinse - Do this several times a day. Take warm water and salt (let dissolve) swish around your mouth. Spit and repeat as needed. *Do not swallow the salt water.
  4. Cinnamon and honey - Make a paste using ground cinnamon and pure honey and place directly on the affected tooth. * Recipe work's best warmed up.
  5. Alcohol - Take a few drops of pure vanilla extract and place directly on the tooth.

Tooth pain is usually an indicator of a serious condition that a dentist should evaluate. Taking care of the pain just masks the underlying problem. This guide is meant to help relieve tooth pain until you can see a dentist. Be sure to call your dentist as soon as you are able.

Top 5 Tooth Whitening Myths Uncovered!

MYTH #1TEETH WHITENING IS HARMFUL AND CAN RUIN THE ENAMEL
TRUTH: Modern methods of teeth whitening, including laser teeth whitening or Air Flow technique, have minimal harmful effects. Nevertheless, one must remember that teeth whitening may not be recommended for all people, especially for those who have extremely sensitive teeth, problematic enamel, underdeveloped tooth tissues, or facial composite restorations and crowns.

MYTH #2AFTER ANY BLEACHING PROCEDURE TEETH DO NOT REMAIN PEARLY WHITE FOR A VERY LONG TIME.
TRUTH: In average, the effect can last for about a year or so, but after every additional bleaching procedure the duration of the effects usually decreases. Generally most patients will "touch up" bleach their teeth periodically to maintain their pearly whites.

MYTH #3IT IS NOT HARMFUL TO WHITEN YOUR TEETH WITH SODIUM BICARBONATE OR BETTER KNOWN AS BAKING SODA.
TRUTH: It is, actually, very harmful, because sodium bicarbonate we use for baking has very strong abrasive effects. If you want to whiten your teeth in an easy way, the use of special whitening toothpastes with bicarbonate contain much smaller particles of bicarbonate and they do not damage teeth as much.

MYTH #4: HYDROGEN PEROXIDE WILL WHITEN MY TEETH IF I SWISH WITH IT DAILY.
TRUTH: While Peroxide MAY slightly lighten your teeth if swished with, it CAN however cause serious chemical burns to the soft delicate tissues inside your mouth. This route is highly discouraged by dental professionals.

MYTH #5IF MY TOOTH ENAMEL IS WHITE, THE TOOTH MUST BE CONSIDERED HEALTHY.
TRUTH: This is absolutely not true! A tooth can look healthy and white, but, at the same time, it can have cavities, problems with the root or other abnormalities that require treatment
